About
About the Event
The Silly Goose Bike Race is a quirky and fun 5km cycling event on the Matakana Cycleway, designed to challenge participants to slow down and embrace mindfulness. The goal? To be the slowest rider to complete the course without dismounting for more than three seconds (except for walking up the steep hill near Takatu Road).
This unique twist on a classic bike race encourages participants to “change gear,” have fun, and enjoy the moment while promoting fitness and mindfulness.
Goals for 2026
Attract 150 participants in the inaugural year, with a mix of locals and visitors.
Create a memorable and unique event that becomes a staple in Matakana’s annual calendar.
Highlight the innovative and creative spirit of the Matakana community.
