About

About
The 2026 project will focus on rehearsing and staging a youth musical theatre production in a local theatre for the community to enjoy. Key details include:

  • Youth-Led Show Selection: Participants will vote on the production in October 2025, ensuring the show reflects their interests and passions.

  • Rehearsals: Weekly rehearsals from February to April 2026, including a school holiday rehearsal program at the Mahurangi East Community Centre.

  • Performances: Four community shows in late April 2026 at a local theatre (venue to be confirmed).

About the Program
The Glass Ceiling Arts Collective Rodney Youth Theatre Class has been running for four years, providing an inclusive and accessible space for all children and youth in Rodney to explore the performing arts. This program embraces diversity, welcoming participants with and without disabilities, including those with Autism or other challenges, in an equitable and supportive environment.

Led by a team of local professionals, including class coordinator Jade Burn, lead tutor Kip Chapman, and two local support tutors/mentors, the program fosters wellbeing, belonging, inclusion, and active participation. Through dance, movement, music, and performance, participants build confidence, form lasting friendships, and connect with their community.

Key Outcomes for 2026

  • Deliver a high-quality, inclusive youth theatre production that uplifts the community.

  • Provide a platform for all youth, including marginalized groups, to shine on stage.

  • Strengthen community connections through the arts.

  • Continue to build on the success of previous sellout productions, ensuring the program’s sustainability and growth.
