About

About
The Intergenerational Writing Workshops are designed to bring together young people aged 14 to 25 and over-60s in a creative and collaborative environment. While the primary age groups are defined, flexibility is offered for those on the cusp of either bracket. Participation in these free workshops requires a commitment to all three sessions.

Workshop Structure
Over the course of three sessions, participants will explore a variety of genres, including:

  • Creative Non-Fiction

  • Autofiction

  • Short Stories

  • Poetry

Using these genres, participants will craft their own stories, guided by model texts that serve as exemplars. These texts, drawn from different time periods but addressing similar themes, will spark lively discussions and comparisons.

Key Features

  • Sharing and Reflection: Participants will share their work during the sessions, culminating in a final session where stories are exchanged and reflected upon. This fosters both artistic growth and a deeper understanding of community and social contexts.

  • Challenging Assumptions: The workshops challenge participants with unfamiliar forms, structures, authors, and styles, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones.

  • Cross-Generational Interaction: The mix of ages enriches artistic creation and social ease, breaking down assumptions and expectations while boosting self-confidence.

Outcomes and Value

  • Artistic Enrichment: Cross-generational interaction leads to enriched ideas and creative output.

  • Community Connection: Participants gain a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives, fostering social ease and understanding within the community.

  • Skill Development: Exposure to new genres, authors, and styles enhances participants’ writing skills and broadens their creative horizons.

The Intergenerational Writing Workshops offer a unique opportunity for participants to connect, create, and grow through the power of storytelling and shared experiences.
